I know my sunblock is making YELLOW STAINS on my nice light shirt collars. I googled the problem and found it was the 'avabenzone' in the sunblock somehow oxidizing iron in water as the shirts even get MORE yellow after washing them. Geez--I make an effort to buy some nice shirts and they are all ruined. Make up to the neck also used to stain them but it could be washed out. this sunblock stuff is bitch to remove.

To those of you who got yellow staining on face from sunblock, it appears to be the avabenzone in them reacting with iron or that's what my Google search kicked up as the reason.

Can hardly walk. Need hip replacement.

People like the Shiseido also and it's made for an Asian market which perhaps, your skin type 'fits into' better. So, go back to that one.

yes MissJ I think so too. so far is the one that has worked the best on me, when I use this it really does block the sun for me, my freckles and sun spots lighten up.

MissJ it is interesting about the iron with avobenzone causing the yellowing of the skin, is it because to much iron?

MissJ what if you use different sunblock for the neck, one that doesn't have the avobenzone,
another thing I read about avobenzone is that if used with mineral makeup it might cause degradation of the protection
and that the sunblock wont be as effective.

for the stains Have you tried some stuff called awesome from the Dollar store, I am not sure if it works on that type of stain but at the beauty school we use it to remove tint stain from floor and counters.

what about Hydrogen peroxide would that work on iron stain?

No, it doesn't, it provides only about 1/3 the protection when used correctly. And since most people don't use nearly enough of it (or reapply it often enough) they won't be getting substantial protection from UVA.

If you don't like LRP, then try Bioderma. You might like the sprays more than the lotions. They do have a darker, tinted version of each (Bioderma and LRP) but they are pricey.

I would be much more concerned about my skin, which is not disposable, than my clothes.

I'll strongly urge you to keep looking. There are some sellers that will provide samples. Avenes are also worth considering. Here:

Kosmeds, thank you very much for posting all the information on the sunblocks, also very grateful for the list of ingredients between the Us and European sunblocks.

I am going to check out the samples and perhaps see what works best.

Speaking of samples, I just checked out the Anthelios 60 Sunscreen fluid sample I have and it says "Made in France" on it. I thought the reason this line is so pricey is because it IS made in France and not here in the good old USA. Is there an Anthelios line that is made in the US???

When I went to the beach last night I slathered on the Neutrogena Dry Touch 85 very thick (I'm sure I looked white) and it seemed to work but there was very little direct sun at that point and I was only out for about 25 minutes, after 6PM.

I've noticed a yellow-ish tinge to my skin in the last couple years and while I'm sure it is mostly due to sun damage/aging, I wonder if the sunscreens can cause your skin to yellow (as well as your clothing)?

BTW, for any swimmers out there, I bought a swim shirt/rash guard with a mock turtleneck on SierraTradingPost.com. It's the Body Glove Deluxe Rash Guard. I never wore swim shirts in the past (unfortunately) but this one is great, very form fitting so works well for swimming, kept me warm in the cold ocean water and has a high SPF. I got it on sale for $13.00; it's currently $18.95 but if you sign up for their mailing list, they send sale coupons a lot.

It has something to do with it oxidizing iron.

I was surprised to learn you can buy Anthelios with Mexoryl at Amazon.com - pretty reasonably priced.

Altho nuthin' beats the price I paid at FeelBest.com for my last bottle of the spray Anthelios: NUTHIN! That's right. They never dinged my VISA. I sent them a follow-up email a few days after I received my Anthelios, and still, they never charged my VISA. Now I could fly up to Canada and hand them the cash, but short of that, I guess this is a nice $38 gift?

i've used anthelios for so many years now that i can't compare it to anything else. my derm did say the neutrogena 80 w/ helioplex is good.

i would also like to know what the difference is between the anthelios sold at duane reade (us version) vs the anthelios sold at the upscale pharmacies is??

i was dissapointed that i got a tinge of color when i was in hawaii and i used anthelios. i paint it on in thick layer and still got a tinge of color on my forehead.

Well, the avabenzone in them is said to react with iron to make a yellow stain on clothing and both kk25 and Chris K have mentioned some staining (yellowish) to their SKIN. So, maybe it can stain the skin.

I think I might go back to using calamine lotion on the neck. Although it leaves a light pink cast, I never had any coloring to the neck area when using it.

I'm low on iron, that may explain why I never had any yellow staining
