The last 3 passwords I've had were every other day. It's not bc I have all caps bc I ck that and I copy and paste it. It only works the first time or so and the next day my password doesn't work. This makes 4 passwords I've had in all.

I have this problem every now and then too, but only about twice a month or less. I noticed that if I try to log-in by clicking on a link to a PM here, my PW will fail the most then. But, if it fails and I go to the normal log in page to log in, I am able to log in fine. It's hinky and not sure what's going on. Likely (if this board has a mysql DB) there's some small glitch in the DB. Not sure.

I don't know why they don't work but many times people do type in with CAPS LOCK and other times it works when one hits the 'refresh' button. Tech Teddy tells people to 'clear the cache' or try a different browser. TechTeddyBear@MissJFacialPlasticSurgery.com if you still have problems.

When I click on links for private messages, and I get to the screen which requires username and PW entry, it always gives me a fail message. But, despite this, if I click on the "inbox" link it takes me there. So don't believe every message--it's probably a "feature" of this software. Your PW still works, provided you entered it correctly.

I think when it does that, it says; 'continue' and it works. Or just click 'refresh' key.

Yes, I'm aware of that message and yes it still works if it accepts your PW. But every once in a while my password simply fails to even get that far, after I enter it and I'm given 'incorrect username/password' message. But, if I go to the login link and retry, it will then accept my PW. I've emailed Miss J a few times when this has happened. More often than not, I can get it to take my PW but when it refuses, I have to close out of my browser completely, relaunch IE, come to here and go to the 'login' screen and try again. Voila, it will work. Just odd behaviour. As a former IT person, it's like a 'reboot'. Reboot will "fix" everything (wink, wink).

Thanks for your explanation DCNGA. As you know, I'm INCOMPETENT in computer tech matters. Tech Teddy put in a FIREFOX browser for me and that one does the 'auto log in' for the password where I don't even have to remember what it is and only press auto-log in or something like that. The word "REBOOT" scares me because when my computer broke it kept saying "boot failure".

"Reboot" is a joke amongst IT people. It is the FIRST thing IT people always suggest because (honestly), it will fix a lot of things (for whatever reason). The first question a support person will ask someone calling for tech support is "Have you tried rebooting?" If the persons says "No", then they are normally asked to give it a try. Many, many times it magically fixes the problem. Who knows why? Users sometimes answer the question before it's asked, "Yes, I've rebooted and it still does not work!".

It is the FIRST thing IT people always suggest because (honestly), it will fix a lot of things (for whatever reason). before it's asked, "Yes, I've rebooted and it still does not work!". There are two main reasons. 1. it frees resources like memory and hard drive space. 2. during the boot process, first the cpu initializes, then it goes to the BIOS for instructions. The first instruction is a power-on test and then it starts checking RAM. If all goes well it will then start polling the hardware devices (keyboard, mouse, printer, drives, etc.) saying, "Are you OK?" to all of them. If all goes well, then the OS (windows, linux, etc.) loads. And once the OS is loaded, the OS does its own system and memory checks and polling of devices as well. So you are not only getting rid of existing problems but also performing diagnostics when you reboot.

All I know is the word; "Boot Failure" which meant the computer could NOT reboot.

That nearly always bodes hard drive failure, either immediate or you may be able to get it to boot up a few more times but your hard drive is failing. It's a precursor to the worst kind of news in most cases with regard to your hard drive. Which I think is what TT had been saying for a while. Are you still using a loaner?

Yes. Still on TT's loaner. Yes, he told me prior that 'boot failure' was BAD NEWS. It used to take like 2 hours getting on line with the other computer. I would keep wildly pressing buttons and turning it off and one like 50X and sometimes that worked. The computer was only 3 years old. This one is much better. A few weeks ago, I got a FAKE VIRUS and it would not work and he had to fix it again. A fake virus is when a computer DOLT like me, goes onto a website and it closes the browser. Then it tells you you have 4 different viruses and to click on something to fix it. When you click onto what they say will fix it, it installs some spy ware that wont leave. It gives constant pop up windows blackmailing you to BUY their virus program. TT said that was 'maleware' or 'blackmailware'. Now I'm instructed NOT to surf the net until he sets up a new one that has not arrived yet. I got another one the other day from a painting website. But this time, i knew NOT to click onto it's prompt and just turned the computer OFF to 'reboot'. Those fake viruses close down the firefox browser and they don't let you click them off. When you reboot even--the firefox will say; 'Restore prior session or start new one'...IF you choose, 'restore prior session', the FAKE VIRUS will start up again.

Yeah, Windows 7 does that 'restore last session' too. Only time I've put myself at risk is looking for song lyrics or images on google images. AVG does a really good job of blocking these and saying the site is not 'safe'.

the computer, when I turn it on says 'protected by Macafee' but I don't know if it just says that or if it really is. Orders are NOT to open any e-mail attachments from people I don't specifically ask to mail me attachments (such as photos) and to stop surfing the net. Kills me not to surf the net because I NEED to look up gardening and painting things. I've got cucumber beetles eating my plants and some pepper plants that look like they don't have the right nutrient combination to them as they are stunted. For the painting, I'm on this 'Donna Dewberry one stroke' kick where I'm trying to figure out WHY I can't make some of the ornate flowers.

It probably has some sort of virus protection since it says that but if the virus definitions are out of date, it won't protect the pc from anything since the date of the virus definitions in the application db (on the machine) and any new ones that have come out since that date. Who knows, it may have virus definitions that are six months old, so anything that's come out in the last six months could 'attack' your system. Could be that the definitions were loaded onto a shared network drive at the company and then when users connected to the network, it updated those definitions and scanned the pc. No way to know for sure, except for TT. I would do whatever he says to do to be safe.

Ya, I agree. I have to be careful about surfing the net now and opening e-mails from people not already in my address book.

I spent the entire day until now (off and on) trying to log in. I had the system send my PW to me FOUR times. What finally worked is I dumped my cache and cookies, then was able to use the new PW from the system to log in. Until then, no matter what I could not log in (even with system provided PW). Just a thought for those having problems in the future.

Thanks for the info. TT says to 'clear the cache'. Could you elaborate on the steps needed to do what you did: 'dump the cache and cookies'. Like what steps does a non computer savvy person do to do that?

Since there's all sorts of ways depending on operating system and browser type, this may be a better guide where each person can find their OS and browser type, then follow the directions or watch videos: How To Clear Your Browser's Cache
