I have received a number of emails today that state they are "from KadeeBelle". They contain links that are suspicious. I highly doubt she's sending out emails selling viagra. Be careful. I've sent her a PM as well so she is aware.

DCNGA has left the board and is no longer taking PMs.
She requests that if you wish to e-mail her to use her direct e-mail address which is: laserandiplsupport@gmail.com

I got one, too, with no subject, not from KadeeBelle but from another poster. From the content of the link it was obviously unintentional. Somebody must have harvested a few email addresses from this site.

I think they've harvested them from a number of sites based on more of these faked emails that I've received from members of other sites I frequent, maybe MMH!

I also got FAKE E-MAILS and from past clients mind you. There is some e-mail problem going around sending fake e-mails. People on Face Forum too got a bunch of them from people they know on there. I'm not tech savvy so I don't know what does that. I think they call it a 'trojan' or a 'worm' or something like that. Something that gets into people's e-mail, finds their address book and starts sending stuff to people in the address book from the person's e mail address.

I don't think it's a thing that harvests e-mail addies from a WEB SITE. Rather, it's a 'thing' that gets into someone's e-mail system and sends out to each person in their address book.

I just opened my AOL mail and got a bunch of fake e-mails from KaydeeBell and also some other e-mail addresses. I've heard (but not sure) the thing to do is to change your password for the e-mail account.

All of the fake emails I received were from AOL or hotmail people. I did not get any from Gmail folks (I'm gmail--hope no one got one from me, but once they had harvested our email from the victim's address book, they could spoof all of our email addresses. Spoof means to make something look like it came from someone you recognize but actually came from an illegitimate source.

Quote:
spoofing is a situation in which one person or program successfully masquerades as another by falsifying data and thereby gaining an illegitimate advantage.

Simply put, spoofing as it relates to worm dissemination, works like this:

Someone who has your email address stored somewhere on her or his computer, becomes infected by a worm that uses spoofing.

The worm searches for email addresses on the infected computer and sends itself to them.

The worm inserts one of the email addresses it finds in the "From:" field of the virus emails it sends. In other words, it may use your address in the "From:" field, which tricks unwary recipients into thinking that the virus came from your computer.

Thus, even though you may practice safe computing and have a worm free machine, you may be unfairly accused of spreading the infection. Meanwhile, the actual sender may remain unaware that his or her machine is infected.

What I find the most interesting is this happened on PS boards (got one from someone on the support board and another from someone on MMH), so someone on one of these boards got the worm and it became a domino affect across all such boards, since so many of us know one another. The commonality of the ones I received is they were ALL from people who were MMH members, even though one was a member here and a member on my board. I never clicked on the link. Hope none of you did. I sent out a broadcast email on my board with a warning and made an announcement on the board that it was going on.

I have updated mine recently and it is still happening. It is very annoying indeed. I post on MMH too so maybe that is where it is coming from

I dunno. I have not gotten one since the day after I created this thread.

The virus has harvested emails addresses from address books of those who have the virus and propagated itself from there, like a domino effect or never-ending story kind of thing.

I really think it started on MMH and went from there but I could be wrong.

A lot of people ALL OVER THE WEB have that 'thing' in their e-mail where it sends SPAM to people in your address book. Ya, it's in the 'Plastic Surgery community' too as people on Face Forum had it and people here and people on MMH. When I get one, it also has OTHER PEOPLE'S e-mail on it like people in one's address book.
