I have had very good luck with 5% minoxidil and the Hairmax laser comb. I got the 'deluxe' double row model.

nyc09, Don't rule out Bosley hair replacement! My hubby had this done 5 years ago. He was 49 at the time and had a receding hairline along the forehead and temples, and thinning hair at his crown.

His procedure was not too involved. They numbed the scalp area, but he was awake for the entire procedure. They took a 1/4" slice of hair from across the back of his head, and carefully separated out each individual hair with its root, then planted them in the right places along his hairline and crown. The "recovery" is about a week, during which you don't wash your hair for several days, then you have the follow-up, then you can shampoo your hair very gently. The hair plugs took, and it has completely transformed his forehead and temple hairline! He is beginning to thin a bit on top, so maybe he'll repeat the procedure, but I was impressed at how well it worked.

What is interesting is that the hair is actually different at the back of the head than at the crown or hairline. It is less prone to falling out. So you want to get this procedure done while you're young enough and have adequate hair supply to generate the plugs. Despite that incision that ran across the back of my husband's head, there is NO visible scar, nor did it appear to leave a noticeable hairless strip in back.

He also uses Minoxidil 10% and has a Rx for Propecia that he takes daily. So perhaps it was a 3-pronged approach that did the trick.
