How gullible do they think we are? http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/27/fashion/27skinWEB.html?partner=rss&emc=rssQuote: ....When cosmetics executives describe the purported benefits of gold for the skin, they seem to be reading from the same PowerPoint slide: anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, anti-acne. People who sell creams with visible gold flecks talk about the ability of those flecks to warm the skin and make it conducive to other ingredients. People who sell gold in nano form — that is, in microscopic particles suspended in a liquid mixture known as a colloid — look down on this crowd, saying that gold can confer benefits only when it is broken down small enough to penetrate the skin. .....
...La Prairie has just come out with a line of products that contain colloidal platinum — including a cream that costs $1,000 an ounce — and plans this fall to introduce a gold-infused sunscreen/moisturizer that will cost $425 for 1.7 ounces. “Our customers are waiting with bated breath,” Ms. Genovese said....
Dr. Judith Hellman, a dermatologist in New York City, did research into gold face creams after enough magazine beauty editors pestered her about them. “At best, they do nothing, and at worst, they can give you irritation of the skin,” she said. “I would tell people to put that money into gold that they can wear around their neck or on their fingers.”

HOGWASH! Makes me grumpy to be sold a bill of goods with these silly, precious ingredients. Like we're a bunch of ignorant, self-indulgent Mayans. And the nano-colloidals bug me even more. There are studies now showing nano particles penetrate to the cell level, and can actually re-engineer stuff down at that level. Now wouldn't I feel like a perfect horse's a$$ if I bought a platinum nano-colloidal cream and applied it nightly for years, only to end up with a carrot sprouting from my nose, or God knows what mysterious health condition that ends up destroying a vital organ?! It's time we got back to basics. Many here seem to mix up their own foundations, sunblocks and cosmetics. So much is so basic: good quality olive oil is a great place to start. And for me, things are even easier: Aquaphor. Everywhere. Period. End of paragraph. I Bug U

Thats for people with money to burn. I doubt it does much. Besides, some of those nano particle things are under controversy as they could gum up other parts of your system.
There is 'something' to the gold theory though as Italians always used to pierce the ears of girls to put in gold earrings. My grandmother told me the gold is good for the health but my mother said that was just a wives tale of people from 'old country'. So, maybe just put the best gold ear loops in the pierced ears. OR maybe get some of those GOLD 'dragees' they sell for cake decorating. Some of them have real fine layer of gold and swallow a few.

My mother had gold injections for rheumatoid arthritis. It is a standard of care injection for severe RA. It did help her. But, that was internally, not externally, of course.

I guess if one really wants to put it to skin, one can buy gold foil in art store or in Indian market and then flake it up and put it into your cream.
