OMG! That sounds so terrible what you are going through. You had an untoward reaction to one of the medications? I had NO IDEA the Valtrex would do something like that and thought they prescribed that stuff so one did not get a herpes breakout but no idea it would do that crap. I so glad you are out of the fever part of the stage. That really sucks. I'm glad your doctor was able to attend to it. Please keep us updated and we are all sending healing vibes that all resolves itself soon.

A miracle truly occurred Friday, when my fever was KILLED. My temp is now it's usual 97.6 (low, but not for bugs on a leaf). With each hour, my strength and mental awareness has increased, and I'm able to do more for myself again. I truly think that is the greatest gift: independence. This could be a case for "House", cuz it has all the blood, gore, puss, pain, porphyry colored body. Just needs a script. But on closer examination I'm thinking more and more it was the accursed Valtrex that has done this to me. A simple face and neck lasering is now going to be a few more weeks of intense recovery and added discomfort. Here is from Wiki: Valtrex Adverse effects Common adverse drug reactions ... include: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, anal leakage and/or headache.. dizziness, ...edema, ... sore throat... abdominal pain, rash, weakness and/or renal impairment.. While many more are also listed, ALL these I had. Much to ponder. I stopped taking the damn pills 4 days ago. Why do some conditions still linger? I had to BUY new shoes cuz my feet swelled 1 full foot size! Oh. The fact that Mercury is still retrograde till the end of May returns to haunt me. Coulda happened to anyone, eh? Bug...I'm so glad you're on the upswing now. I'm an astrology buff, too - not an expert by any means, but I read a lot and am more interested in astrology now than I ever have been (it speaks to me for some reason)...and this Mercury Rx has been an unusual one, with Mercury in it's storm period for the whole retrograde. I appreciate the suggesting Surfgirl - and your earlier suggestion about vinegar and water. Oddly enough no antibiotics were "precautionarily" prescribed in the first place. Perhaps because my doc felt the herpes outbreak would be more likely than a silly bacterial infection? But whaddya think they do to burn victims? Wait and see? I bet they have them on a broad spectrum antibiotic PDQ. I think my MixTo laser was about as close to a "controlled" second degree sunburn as one can get. The standard treatment for that includes antibiotic. Now - better late than never - I've been prescribed and am taking Keflex 750mg - horse pills. I follow each pill 30 min later with a PB8 probiotic! But I pound my forehead in frustration wondering why I was started early on Valtrex. It just got my body all primed and ready to wreak havoc like a purple demon when I needed it most strong. Test studies may say that Valtrex adversely affects users in the way I got whacked less than 1% of the time. But what was the age group of those studied? 16-29? Or do you think they also included folks like me 54-90 in a genital herpes medicine study? Guffaw! I just think us senior folks who choose to have a procedure that calls for taking a drug that works GREAT with kids and young folks should warn us: YOU'LL probably be in that 1% woman - so decide accordingly! Furthermore, no brochure is going to show you in nauseating detail how once the session is over, it's YOU on your own, swabbing the layers of crusted, ugly, vivid-hued, pustuled skin many times a day. I will remain optimistic on the outcome, but wait till you see the reality of skin rejuvenation. It isn't the treatment that should spook you. That only lasts 60-90 minutes. It's the weeks of isolation, anxiety, discomfort that you'll need to weigh in the balance. And you'd want a list of prescriptions up-front so you can research the drugs and their interactions before plunking down your dough. =========================================== surfgirl wrote:glad you are doing ok, hope you are feeling better. in case it helps, wanted to mention that if you don't see improvement after your doc d/c'd the meds you are allergic to, maybe also look at the antibiotics you are taking. are they sulfa drugs? some people are allergic to sulfa, main symptom is severe skin reaction. also, some antibiotics, if they cause severe digestive reactions and diarrhea, can in some (rare) cases cause a super bug and you can paradoxically become ill. taking probiotics can sometimes help to prevent or offset this. your doc probably already thought of all this, but just wanted to mention it in case it is of any help. feel better and good luck. That needs to be repeated, cuz other than the rash, it was the one thing keeping me on my toes! Thing is, you don't even know it - nor can you control it!! I'd be at the sink, my hubby doing the scrubby, and next thing I hear is him screaming, "Look OUT!" Too late. Panties, legs, footsies, slippers, everything gushered. Over and over and over. I'm actually splitting my lips laughing over that memory, but yes, that's what *anal leakage* is all about in my case. stache wrote:

OMG. Very funny and straight forward explanation of a terrible side effect. So, with all these laser procedures, one needs to take that VALTREX stuff??? SHIT--no pun intended Bugjune wrote:That needs to be repeated, cuz other than the rash, it was the one thing keeping me on my toes! Thing is, you don't even know - nor can you control it!! Hey Shaz, Thanks for the good vibes! I appreciate that link you included. One can never know enough about MercRx. It's killer. 'specially for me, split twin born in MercRx. I got your wonderful email, too. And DAMNED if I can not figure out why, here, away from home, on my crappy, infuriating VAIO, I am unable to hit reply or even "quote" then reply to my emails? I blame Mercury. Back home, on my reliable Mac, all is good. And if I just jinxed that by saying it, I'll have one more thing to laugh about. So I will get back to you then through my email message. Totally 19th century, but still. Argh. Now here is who I read to stay current on the stars: http://www.astrologycom.com/retro.htmlI will not be dictated to by astrology, but I will take it into account around serious elective surgery, travel and life changes. The more I know, the better! Happy reading. Hugs, Bugs Shaz wrote:

Bug, it's so good to hear you being funny again - not that I imagine that means you feel fine. Just good enough to jest. But don't "pound my forehead in frustration wondering why I was started early on Valtrex". What's done is done, and relaxing will help you recover, not getting ansgty.
Good point about weighing up the recovery period, and investigating all the drug interactions.
I've posted elsewhere but can re-post where convenient to you how to attach pics from a Mac onto here, so no pros there.
Get well real soon, x

Valtrex is taken prophylactically before facial resurfacing treatments. If you are prone to cold sores/fever blisters, then the stress of a laser procedure can cause them to erupt. From what I've read if that happens (you have a cold sore outbreak) to the already damaged skin of the face post-ablative resurfacing, it can leave terrible scarring. In Bugs case, due to her sensitivity, it was not worth it. But, for those not sensitive it is a precaution that could be well worth it. It is not just used to treat genital herpes but is used to stave off fever blisters if you have them regularly. I've been taking it for years (off and on) with no problems, so luckily I guess I'm not allergic or sensitive to it.

OK. I put my rubber mallet down now. :-) If your tips on posting from the Mac are not too long, you can send me a PM. I can read all my Inbox emails A-OK. I am just not able to reply in any form to them - so folks wouldn't know I got the email unless I told 'em so up here on the boards. It's just been a fugduggly May overall. I should be home by tomorrow, and in addition to having more SNOW all week, will have my Mac and join the real world again. Thanks! Bug...don't worry about replying at all, sweetie!! Arrgh...techno problems all around us (my signature went wonky this weekend-duh!). So glad May is done (yep, I just let astrology be my little psychological guide to see where I need to improve or what pitfalls I can avoid - will read your link!) You just relax and heal. You're in my thoughts and this has been so much worse than it should have been, thanks to a drug reaction that couldn't be predicted. We're here for ya...just wanted you to know. Want you feeling better soon...so sorry this has been a biotch of a thing with the Valtrex, that's such a common prophalactic drug to prescribe for invasive facial treatments. Sheesh. Again..sending good vibes your way.

I should have skipped my fillers and botox this month too. Neither has gone well. Bruised from the fillers and the Btx, plus I think she over-did the Botox above my top lip and I'm going to end up with articulation issues for a few weeks. Ugh. I need to pay closer attention to the Mercury retrograde stuff from now on...
