KK-

You may have put too much - and maybe your skin has changed due to the procedures you have had done - I know that after Fraxel my skin is much more sensitive - just wait a couple of days and then start again - but put very little - they say a pea sized portion to each side of the face - good luck with this

You can try some cortisone creme like Cortaid. When you first put it on, it will burn for about 30 seconds, but then it will calm the inflammation in your skin and feel much better.
My PS told me to do this when skin is peeling and inflammed from chemical peels, so I think it should also help with Retin A irritation. Also, give your skin a break from the Retin A for a day or so.

Not sure I would use cortisone cream to be honest. However, you can cut/dilute the RetinA with moisturizer or put moisturizer on first then RetinA. The gel form is the harshest, so if you're using the gel form, try the cream next time. I went from gel Tazorac to the cream form it is much, much gentler.

DCNGA has left the board and is no longer taking PMs.

kk25,
I think you might need to 'cut' the retin a as in dilute it to 1/2 strength by mixing 1/2 of the amount you are using with an equal amount of skin cream.

Can hardly walk. Need hip replacement.

Ask your derm for a Rx of Biafine. They use it in burn units and it is amazing. I've had fraxels, levulan, and numerous skin peels and Biafine eliminates the redness and peeling. Ultra gentle. . . . not to be used on a regular basis, but a great item to have on hand!!!!

For me Retin A is too harsh . I use Retin A Micro .1%.. And I only use about 1/2 a pea size for whole face every other day.

Heh. I am going through taz 0.05% gel like it's water. Maybe after the 5th continuous day of copious use I get a bit of a "rosy glow" (and compliments, too!). I'll back off for a night then and start over again the next day. I love the stuff. I'm on the oily, insensitive side.

DCNGA,

the one i used is called tretinoin cream 0.1 %
that is a great tip to put moisturizer first than the retina, ill do that ounce healed up from this,

DC do you know what is good to soothe the itchiness of the skin? I use some Bactine and vaseline but it only
helped with the stinging.

Kosmeds Thanks
Lucky you, I seen your pic and you have very nice even skin,
I also have olily skin but I am trying to get rid of acne scars on the chin and sundamage,
didnt think I was going to get this reaction because normally my skin is very tought but this tretinoin
really kicked my behind, I am wondering if it could have been an allergy reaction because I did not use on the
neck and i have some sort of a rash(kind of like hives).

Just doeing an update on my Retin A use the other day,

well I havent used it anymore, because I Really hated the burning and definetly do not like what it did for me,
now I notice that my skin got shiny and smooth looking but in a bad way, it is difficult to smile because the top layes feels tight and odd somewhat like what burned people have, also notice that the skin gets more wrinkled now than before, for example before all the skin layers moved all at ounce and didnt get wrinkles, but now the under layers (muscle, fat, etc) still moves, but the top layer of skin just crinkles and has a hard time stretching.

UGH! I just hope this goes away soon because it looks hideous.
I am done with it as I do not to make this any worst.

^^I thought that was the way it was supposed to work- first you have to go through a period of looking worse, then you gradually start looking better. I've never used it before, but I'm going to start using it in conjunction with my Rogaine 5% soon per a PS's recommendation, and was thinking about using it on my face but only spot treating a few freckles. Was also considering using it under my eyes.

Yes, unfortunately this is true. Efficacy and adverse effects are dose-dependent. The more it irritates, the more it does. Ref:Ned Tijdschr Geneeskd. 2006 Jan 21;150(3):140-2. [From the Cochrane Library: Improvement of photodamaged skin with retinoid creams and not with other local treatments]

Ryan be careful putting it under your eyes, imo its to risky because what happens if you end
up with crinkly fragile skin under the eyes.

Kosmed I did not mind the irritation as much as the crinkly tight skin that surfaced when the layer of dry
skin came of, it is uncomfortable even smile because of tightness of the top layer.

Kosmed Do you know if the the crinkly skin goes away ?
