GOOD SHOW rm1961!!! And my own suggestion would be to go "overboard" in the rest & recovery phase. Ask to work from home for ONE week. You can stay in touch via email, but the big thing is, you don't want to be flappin' your trap and rubbing cheek against gum. Do those salt water mouth rinses hourly! You'll be A-OK. I Bug U

Thanks Bugjune - will play it by ear. If I'm OK to work on Thursday, I can potentially not speak the whole time I'm there. It is pretty much all computer work. But I've told them I may not be in until the following week. I am a contractor so I can make my own hours but that means I don't get paid when I don't work!
I really pray this is the right thing to do and I don't have any of the complications I have unfortunately read about on the internet.

Ok, I am certifiably a nutcase. At 4:00PM I called and canceled June 1st because I started to cry uncontrollably with fear. I am not usual such a freak about dental work but I have read way too much about this procedure and how it is not urgent unless you have symptoms - which I do not. I read something where someone had it done and it made her recession worse. Yeah I know, worse case scenario but apparently I am no in state of mind to have gum surgery.
I called back and the perio answered the phone. He was very pleasant and said they had already filled my slot and and that he did not think my recession would worsen a lot in 3 months but since he anticipates grafting 4 areas (If i decide to go through with the other two) that he thinks I should get started. He said, not to worry, the summer will be over before you know it and it will be Labor Day (I rescheduled for the day after Labor Day).

You're smart to be prepared for this emotionally etc.

I do not think you are a nutcase at all. That is a good sign the perio was reasonable about it.

Thanks for the support. I do feel like a nutcase in that I kept changing my mind and even today, I am thinking I made the *wrong* decision by postponing the procedure. The last few months have been consumed with this issue and somehow I think I won't worry about it over the summer? (I may not be a nutcase but am certifiably a worry wart!) Although my sister pointed out that if I never consulted a periodontist, I would not be in this situation. My original dentist said that seeing a periodontist was an "option". My new dentist pointed out that "once you see a periodontist, you have periodontal problems."
I may go for another opinion at some point prior to September 7th. Was hoping to not have my summer consumed by this...but I made my decision and now I have to wait.
In the meantime, I will get more info on the best methods of oral hygiene and plaque control and I will really *try* not to worry about this.
