I have a pretty bad linear scar above my lip.Similar to a smokers line but deeper and longer. I had it revised 3 years ago with very little improvment. I want to find a new doctor who specializes in minimizing scars, and possibly share notes with someone else who has the same problem. I have been recommended dermabrasion or injection.I have not tried injection because my lips are already permanently overfilled and I dont want that area any bigger.

I'm assuming you've already tried Mederma and silicone scar sheets?

Ever thought of Needling? I know it is used for acne scars, but have heard of it for the lip area as well.

My naturopathic doctor has been injecting B12 and homeopathic collagen and hyaluronic acid into my scar from my mini laparotomy last year. I have to say, I am pretty impressed with the results so far.

I have tried mederma, but not silicone sheeting (how do those work and is 3years aftet too late?)
Do you need an allergy test before homeopathic collagen injections? never heard of them, who is your doctor and what state are they in?
If I could find a surgeon in CA who did the needling I would try that.

The literature says three years is not too late. The trick would be to secure the sheeting in the right place. I think you would need to make some kind of headband contraption, put it on after dinner when you are at home, and wear it overnight.

I really believe in the silicone sheets. I have that massive scar that goes around my entire core from my circumferential tummy tuck. At 5 weeks I started wearing the strips, in the front only. The back was just too hard to get to, and the shape of the scar in back (in a heart shape over my butt, or, what I call it is the McDonalds sign over my butt), would have been a chore to cover. Anyway, wore them 24/7 for 5 weeks, and then basically got bored. I do scar very well, and had never done anything else to any other scars, so I just quit. However, the front scar looks sooo much better than the sides and back. That from only wearing the strips 5 weeks. You can hardly see the front scar. I'll post a pic in fact, that I just took 2-3 weeks ago. The back and sides do not look this good though. They are darker and a bit stretched. I know that tension plays a role in that. Much more tension on the hips and above the butt. But, I do believe that the silicone played a big part in speeding things up. My doctor told me that the strips will not alter the final result, but instead will just speed up the final result. I don't believe that. I have heard from people who were several years out who were able to flatten and fade scars. Plus, as Stache says, the literature says it works, and since I know it helped me I believe it. There is also the silicone scar gel, but without the pressure I am not sure that works as well. Link below to pic. Keep in mind one year ago this was a massive scar. This portion looks great, and I firmly believe it is due to the strips. Like I said, the hips and back portion are not looking as good yet. They have quite a while to go in fact. I figure if this stuff can help a huge scar like this, that a tiny one on the face would be cake! You can see it is darker in the very front, (shadows I think) and then the lines get lighter and as it wraps around my hips (out of the vision in this pic), it gets wider and darker. Coincidently starting in the parts I did not use the silicone sheets. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v104/PMDLDV/DSC02186.jpg

That doesn't look bad at all! Do you shave all the time?

stache wrote:That doesn't look bad at all! Do you shave all the time? Thanks Stache. The front doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I am thrilled with it. Not so the back. It is a funny shape and comes up high above my low rise jeans. Oh well. No, I am bad about shaving/waxing. My DH is gone 3 weeks a month, so basically I only do it before he gets home! Usually shaving. I'm also cheap. TMI sorry, but have to be honest on that. I am not good about it. Of course I made sure to do it before I took the pics. I was taking them for MMH on a scar thread, trying to show that all hope is not lost and you are not doomed to a dark scar forever (most people did not have the back portions like I did, and only have the front, so don't have to deal with that tension and funny shaped scar).

Scar looks great Annie, but your hubby is only home one week a month??? How long has it been this way? Must be lots of pros and cons!

Sorry I'm being so prying. I was curious if most ladies shave these days.

Thank you Sue! I do credit those silicone sheets! Seems so coincidental that the front looks great, and that's where I've worn the sheets. Unbelievable how good they can work! Well, my DH as never been home much. He's a pilot, and is based in another state. So, he has to tack on a day to fly there and then a day to fly back for each trip. Then it will be a long trip, or two shorter ones but not enough time to come home. Typically it is actually 18-21 days he's gone. But, some months he is home more, and he gets two weeks off a year, but if he takes them one week at a time, it will be hard to schedule around them, so then he'll end up with a week or so off in addition since they can't schedule it just right! He flies international so doesn't do short little trips typically. So, then he's home for a couple weeks. (that's not easy when you are used to being alone, because he's home 24/ 7 when he is home, and yes I love him but that's a lot). Yeah, it has its pros and cons. Especially when the kids were little. Back then it was strictly the military and we lived on AF bases though, which helped tremendously to have all your friends in the same situation, and military people really take care of each other. Some assignments he was gone all the time, and a couple of our posts he had normal daily job and was home at night, with some occasional trips. So, I'm used to it pretty much. In some ways, the separations have kept our marriage "young" and in other ways it has pulled us apart! Sorry to go on so long, and especially since this is not my thread. Thanks for asking Sue. Stache, you are not being prying! I'm not shy about anything. God knows at MMH I've told stuff that would make Madonna blush. (okay, maybe not that bad). I have to laugh at this scene in that Meryl Streep movie "It's Complicated." Okay, she's having an affair with her ex husband (Alec Baldwin), ten years after they divorced. So, after the first laison, he tells her he loves that she no longer bikini waxes. He says "I love that you've gone native." LMAO! It was so funny. Gone native.

No allergy tests beforehand, it is homeopathic, so technically there is no collagen or hyaluronic acid in there, just the energetic frequency of them. Sounds weid, I know, but it works. My ND uses GUNA injectable products http://www.gunainc.com/AllLanguages/Contenuto/ProductsOverview.asp?SelectionMenu=-1235.I see a naturopathic doctor (ND) in British Columbia, Canada.

Mich, I dont think silicone sheets will work because your scar is mature.

I would try dermabrasion. gunter used it for my scars from an alar base reduction - it worked. Depending if you on any medications such Accuntane - it is not sugguested though. also, I know Haworth also suggests it for scarring in area after LL.

I had one guy who shaved a few years back. I don't think most do. He was kind of a "neat freak" The best way to keep up on this kind of trend is to check out recent porno/nudie magazines (not that I do that very often....)
