phpBB allows you to choose a 'pruning' date. I can change it from 60 days to whatever I want. YAF must be different. If you want, while I'm recuperating I could delete old posts in the celeb board (say from over a year ago) but that does reduce everyone's points by deleting, I think. Is there a way to delete posts without causing a points reduction? It would be too time consuming to go into individual posts to remove the pics. But, that might be the only option.....ugh...

Ya, I guess I can delete older topics with lots of celeb photos in them. The members who wanted to respond to them at the time they were lodged have already responded--like long time ago--and no big problem, I guess, if later 'lurkers' who are not members don't see the pics that were there.

God--I just tried deleting some photos from Celeb section--it's taking like 5 min per photo and there are like 1000s of photos on there near a year old posts.

I figured it would take a long time if you went into each individual post and just deleted the pics. Very time consuming. Deleting the posts should be faster, but then you have the whole points issue. We do love our points. Maybe the DB size is not the problem and you can wait until you talk to TT to see if it will even help.

I don't delete the posts. Just the photo attachements. That was taking FOREVER. The admin section has a part that says; "attachements" and the option to delete (one by one) but that was taking me forever. Celebrity section gets the most photos and many are near a year old. So, that's the section, I'm going to try to prune of photos.

I will look for some of my pics from last year in the celebrity section and delete them, too. I think (not sure) that even links to offsite pics (the time it takes to load them here) could slow things down, too. Maybe you could request that people not quote when pictures are linked or involved. That might help keep down the size and load time too.

I also think that the site would be faster if we didnt use the attach button so much, maybe when we post pictures we could use a photo hosting site and just post ink to it.

That might be better, KK, but the pics have to load from some place and that can still slow things down a bit. During the day, it is SUPER FAST. It's in the late afternoons and evening that it becomes sporadically slower which I think is because more people are accessing the site at that time. I do have my avator stored in a very old post, so hopefully that does not get deleted. I link to the image in an older post to my siggy.

The problem loading pages may be related to the error message that's appearing at page bottoms. As an experiment, we're disabling the forum's ability to send email (such as PM notifications, new user address verification, etc.) for about 24 hours. Let's see if it makes a difference. Thanks for your patience!

TTB, Go into the EVENT LOG (which i don't understand). Here is what I found when I clicked "show" for a random guest:
System.Net.Mail.SmtpException: Transaction failed. The server response was: The message was rejected because it contains prohibited virus or spam content at System.Net.Mail.DataStopCommand.CheckResponse(SmtpStatusCode statusCode, String serverResponse) at System.Net.Mail.DataStopCommand.Send(SmtpConnection conn) at System.Net.Mail.SmtpConnection.OnClose(Object sender, EventArgs args) at System.Net.ClosableStream.Close() at System.Net.Mail.MailWriter.Close() at System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient.Send(MailMessage message) at yaf.pages.ForumPage.SendMailThread()
It says that EVERY TIME I hit "show" for an event. Does that mean anything to you???
There was a Chinese web crawl BOT in here a few nights ago because I check when it says something like 2 members and 20 GUESTS are on line. Like I check to see if the guests are unique. In this case the 20 guests all had same IP and it resolved to a Chinese web bot. I banned that IP
Is it possible this bot thing 'wanted' to post SPAM and did something?

As you told me before (on the phone) guests don't get that error message on bottom of page. Not sure if members get it. I get it as admin and it is STILL THERE. It's the same error message in the event log. Is it possible the Chinese bot was a SPAM BOT and tried to send stuff and the system 'caught' it and stopped it from doing that--like stopped it from posting, signing up or trying to transmit e-mail? I have no error messages at the bottom, ever. But, I never send emails--it has never worked for me. I never get emails because it throws errors for others trying to send to me. This has been going on since the day I joined, so I don't think that particular problem of mine relates to the email issue you guys are seeing. I use PMs instead. They work great!

I have a theory! Whenever I am in a thread where someone has their avatar stored at Photobucket, it takes FOREVER to load. So (really just guessing) when those people have multiple posts all over the board and several of us are logged in at the same time trying to open those posts where these people with Photobucket and other photo storage sites stored avatars are, it is slowing the board to a crawl. Photobucket is notoriously slow. All of the photo hosting sites are SLOOOOWWWWW because they're free storage and they don't give away free space without a trade off (slowness and numerous pop ups and flash ads). If you watch the bottom task bar in the bottom left of the screen as pages are loading, you will see when/where it's hanging as it tells you what/where it's downloading images and how many are left. While this may not be the CORE problem, it may have something to do with the slowness. Just a huge guess, though.

I don't know what it is with the e-mail as some people DO get e-mail from the system. Of course, the people who do get e-mail from the system happen to be the ones who get freaked out that someone they did not know, e-mailed them from my board and they are concerned that the person who e-mailed them can 'see' their addy (which they CAN'T) from here. LOL, just my luck that the folks who do want e-mail get the error message. Ya, I think using PMs are better. DCNGA wrote:I have no error messages at the bottom, ever. Disabling emails has not helped. I've been off and on most of the day and it was HORRIBLY slow about an hour ago and now it is zoooooommmming fast. Very strange.

mmm--some of the avatars are the ones I made for people which are stored directly here. Now as to the photobucket things, who has a photo bucket avatar. Let me look and see if I can replace some of them with storage here. DCNGA wrote:I have a theory! I still think attaching pictures directly from the computer slows the site down.

OK, THAT is a theory I'm willing to TRY out. Yes, it is true that image shack and photo bucket take a LONG time to load. I noticed Y's avatar was remotely stored on image shack. So, I copied his avatar and stored it here. See: http://missjfacialplasticsurgery.com/missjforum/yaf_postst4057_Avatar-test.aspxLike now the address of his avatar is NOT on image shack but here. So, who else has avatars linked into a slow base? (image shack or photo bucket) DCNGA wrote:I have a theory!
