Has anyone tried this treatment? Hoping Ryan or KK25 will have some input. It is supposed to really help frizzy, damaged hair. Very pricey..700$ for average treatment...

I haven't had the treatment but have inquired about it locally and been quoted between $250 and $350. But I think the quote is based on the anticipated number of hours the treatment will take. Do you have extremely thick/long hair? Mine is fine and shoulder length. $700 for a process that starts to fade after 6 weeks and is gone by 3 months sounds very steep.

Page, if you scroll back to some posts in June/July, you'll see a thread on this topic. I had considered getting it done myself. But then learned the treatment has toxic formaldehyde that many people (including the salon stylists) have complained about. Oh, and $700 bucks? You gotta be kidding! That is out-rageous. I was quoted $250 tops. Granted, you may have a lot more hair than me (so would the typical man's moustache!) but I would guffaw at $700. I Bug U

i watch and wait when stuff like this comes out because the long term effect on your hair (1 or 2 yrs) is unknown initially...and if you have long hair, you have to live with it for a long time. I decided against it. Then the Brazilian Blowout came along. The Brazilian Blowout is a different formulation than the original BKT. After much research online, (again) waiting over a year to see what problems cropped up, observing two doctors in my derm practice that had it done and discussion with my hairdresser (who doesn't perform them herself but has many clients with them and has a colleague in the salon who does them) I finally took the plunge a few weeks ago. Yes it has chemicals. So does hair color. I was less bothered by fumes from this than when i have my roots touched up. the key for me is that it does not chemically alter the hair's cuticle (like the japanese straighteners/perms of a few years back). It works by coating the cuticle. It leaves your hair with body (unlike the japanese straightener). Over time it washes out gradually. The hairdresser who did it for me has done it in her own hair several times, as have several of her colleagues in the salon. The first week or so you may feel that your hair is a little flatter than you would like, but with a little texturizer at the roots during the blow dry, no problem. Also, unlike the japanese straighterner, you can actually still add curl and style to the hair using a curling iron, flatiron, etc. Be careful to find a salon and stylist who is doing the actual Brazilian Blowout. There are lots of pseudo-imitators. they should have six months or more experience at it and be able to answer all of your questions. this is the site for the actual product: http://www.brazilianblowout.com/homeAnd BTW the going price in the LA area is $250, even for a long head of hair.

Robin and Bug...thanks so much...I read the old thread and will research my local area to see if anyone offers the Brazillian Blowout. I am always so scared to do anything to my hair....I even hate to have it cut and trust me it is a mess...very damaged and difficult to deal with...I wore extensions for 2 years and really screwed it up...Finally weaned myself from the extensions and now I need some serious help!!

I had the Global Keratin treatment 4 weeks ago and I LOVE how my hair is now. It was so frizzy and dry before and now it is smooth and shiny. I don't even have to blow dry it if I don't want to, it dries really fast after washing, I don't even have to wash it everyday anymore, and there is NO frizz - unbelieveable. Cost was $350, but for me worth every penny. There have been claims of hair falling out after the treatment, but that has not happened to me. I had it done in San Diego and my stylist is very meticulous. The only thing difficult about Global Keratin vs. Brazilian Blowout is that you cannot wash your hair for 72 hours after the Global treatment and you can't sweat of wear elastic bands, clips or anything that might create a dent or wave.

I have been considering this treatment too,but I only want my nape done. I like the fullness at the top and sides. I was wondering if I should stop coloring that area and just do this or do both procedures.

this is link for another thread on this linklinkLink 2 I am neither pro or against the treatment, i think is practically one of the little options for people that have highlights or bleach in their hair, but if the person has color only I think they are better off with the Rusk Str8.

I want to add that with some of the American Keratin treatments, you can do this treatment on your own, because there is no need to rinse out the product or neutralize, the product doesn't have a processing time.
so if anyone knows how to flat iron hair, means that basically you can do this on your own, just be meticulous when you iron it, another thing you can do if you are worried about fumes is that you can do this in your back porch/patio on open air.
if you are planing on coloring your hair and to get this done, you can do on same day or a week before.
also is best to use a sulfate free shampoo when you have this treatment.
