Never Over The Hill Cosmetics is currently in negotiations with some overseas distributors to put the Moisturizing Eyelash Growth Serum in world wide circulation. An independent Branding Agency was hired to look into the "competition" in the eyelash growth market and to evaluate their ingredients and their success or shortcomings. This includes pricing information which is critical for this survey. A product may or may not work, and if it does work then is it "cost effective" for the consumer? Here is a brief description of the information that they assembled for NOTCH. For comparison purposes, here is the base information for the E.Y.E.S. Moisturizing Eyelash Growth Serum from Never Over The Hill Cosmetics:
Moisturizing Eyelash Growth Serum: $25.00 for a 0.14 fl. oz. (4 ml) vial with applicator brush
Description:
This eyelash growth serum with botanical derived actives has been designed to stimulate growth of eyelashes. It contains a state-of-the-art peptide called Sympeptide 226 EL (Myristoyl Pentapeptide-17, from Symrise) which signals the eyelashes to grow longer and fuller. The serum is fortified with botanical actives that are jojoba and macadamia based. This not only ensures that the active ingredient will be driven into the skin where it will work effectively, but also provides long term moisturization of the skin when coupled with sodium hyaluronate. And moisturized skin is healthy skin which sustains the eyelash growth.
(Information from the Branding Company):
Here is a list of the most popular eyelash growth products currently on the Market. But first, a little history:
The original "Jan Marini" eyelash growth product was introduced as a "cosmetic" product many years ago. However, the active ingredient was the drug active used to treat the eye problem, Glaucoma. When the FDA found out that the Jan Marini product was being sold as a cosmetic, with a drug active ingredient, they were told to cease all sales, and all inventory was destroyed! This tells you that the FDA will not tolerate eyelash growth products with drug actives being incorrectly sold as cosmetics. If the product contains a drug active, it MUST be sold through a doctor, with a doctor's prescription. That includes overseas internet companies that are selling the drug active online without a doctor visit, or appropriate doctor's prescription. They are also breaking U.S. drug enforcement laws, and perhaps other international country's laws as well. The Jan Marini company has since come out with another product to comply with FDA regulations.
Now, let's have a look at each of the competitor's products:
1)
LiLash www.lilash.comSells for $139.00 per 0.18 fl. oz. container (supposed to last 5 months...)
Ingredients:
Purified water, Panthenol, Lupinus Albus Seed Extract, Prunus Amygdalus Seed Extract, Silica, Glycerin, Coloidal Silver, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin, 9 Alpha, 11 Alpha, 15S-trihydroxy-17-Phenyl 18, 19, 20-Trinorprosta-5Z, 13E-Diene-1-oic acid, Isopropyl Ester, Hydroxyethylcellulose.
Problems: If you look carefully at the ingredients, this product has an ingredient that is called Trinorprosta-5Z. Trinorprosta, is apparently in the same DRUG CLASS as bimotropost. The LiLash website even mentions this....
LiLash was formulated to be non-irritating to your eyes from the start. Hundreds of our customers have told us that LiLash was much easier on their eyes than similar lash conditioning products. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Please make sure to apply Lilash to the skin of the eyelid and not the eyelashes themselves. Reports of irritation have occurred simply due to incorrect application. Some people, however, may have more sensitive eyes than others. If you experience irritation, reduce the use of LiLash. If irritation persists, discontinue using the product completely.
Some people experience skin discoloration at the base of the eyelid. If you find that this occurs and it bothers you, discontinue the use of LiLash. Any darkening or discoloration that occurs is reversible.
It is obvious that this product can cause irritation for users, and can cause side effects.
2)
Peter Thomas Roth Eyelashes To Die For Nigh Time Eyelash Conditioning Treatement Sells for $125.00 per 0.2 fl. oz. container
Ingredients:
Water, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Panthenol, Retinyl Palmitate, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Phospholipids, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hydrolyzed Glycosaminoglycans, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate Cyclodextrin N-[2-Hydroxy-1-Hydroxymethyl)Ethyl]-9-Oxo-11.Alpha.,15s-Dihydroxy-17-Phenyl-18,19, 20-Trinor-Prosta-5z,13e-Dien-1-Amide, Triethanolamine, Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, Alcohol
Problems: If you look carefully at the ingredients, this product has an ingredient that is called Trinorprosta-5Z. Trinorprosta, is apparently in the same DRUG CLASS as bimotropost. Alcohol, even though listed last, can cause irritation if it reaches the eyes.
It is obvious that this product can cause irritation for users, and can cause side effects.
3)
Latisse www.latisse.comSells for $120.00 per 3.0 ml container
Ingredients:
The active ingredient in Latisse is Bimatoprost. This is a prostaglandin analogue (works like a prostaglandin) long used for glaucoma.
They are using benzalkonium as a preservative.
Other inactive ingredients are citric acid, purified water, sodium chloride (saline), and sodium phosphate
Problems: This product contains the drug active, Bimatoprost Ophthalmic Solution 0.03%. The following is a list of the known side effects when using products that contain the drug "Lumigan"/Bimatoprost and prostaglandin type actives:
1) Eye color change, to a darker color which cannot be reversed
2) Red eyes, and/or redness around the eyelid area
3) Severe eye irritation on use of the product
4) Eyelash shedding and falling out
5) "spidery" eyelash growth, eyelashes that are not straight, that curl or bend in odd directions
6) Hairs growing in places on or near the eyes where hair should not grow
7) Blurred Vision
8) Drug active products REQUIRE a prescription to obtain, possess and use. This requires expensive doctor visits just to obtain the prescription. Ordering from "overseas" without the prescription is ILLEGAL, and the DEA can and will arrest users who have these products without a prescription.
9) Ordering a "drug" product from overseas, sight unseen, can result in products that are tampered with, not strong enough, contaminated, and/or potentially harmful to the user's health.
It is obvious that this product can cause irritation for users, and can cause side effects. As a matter of fact, the instructions that come with Latisse say that it CANNOT be used on the lower lashes! The reason for this warning is that hair can grow on the area of the cheek where some of this solution could run down if it was applied to the lower lash area. So, only HALF of the eyelashes could possible grow from this product! The preservative is based on benzalkonium chloride which can be irritating to the eye. The salt water base solution can cause eyelashes to become brittle over time.
NOTE: This product MUST be obtained through a doctor visit (costs extra money) and requires a doctor to write a presciption for the product.
4)
Jan Marini Marini Lash www.janmarini.com
Sells for $160.00 per 0.23 fl. oz. container (supposedly last approximately 6 months)
Ingredients:
Water (Aqua), Sodium Hyaluronate, Hydrolyzed Glycosaminoglycans, Diazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben, Proplyparaben, C12-C15 Alkyl Benzoate, Panthenol, Acrylates/C10-C30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Myristoyl Pentapeptide-17, Myristoyl Tetrapeptide-12, Linoleic Acid, Linolenic Acid, Tocopherol, Biotin, Camellia Sinensis (White Tea) Leaf Extract, Aesculus Hippocastanum (Horse Chestnut) Seed Extract, Cinnamomum Zeylanicum (Cinnamon) Bark Extract, Butylene Glycol, Saccharomyces/Copper Ferment, Sodium Phosphate Dibasic, Sodium Chloride, Triethanolamine, Vitamin B-12, Folic Acid.
Problems: This product does use the same Peptide that the NOTCH serum uses: Myristoyl Pentapeptide-17 known as Sympeptide 226 EL. So, it may be able to cause eyelash growth. However, it has no skin penetrating ingredients to get the active into the skin where the lashes start to grow. So, the length of time needed to see eyelash growth will probably by much longer than with the NOTCH product. Users may become frustrated and give up on this product too early. It also uses "triethanolamine" to neutralize the polymer used to thicken this product. Triethanolamine is one of the few allowed cosmetic ingredients that is best not to avoid due to the known health effects associated with this raw material.
This product does use the good eyelash growth active peptide. But, it does not deliver it deep into the eyelid skin where it needs to go to be effective. Plus, the $160.00 price per vial is EXTREMELY overpriced and could easily be beaten by the Moisturizing Eyelash Growth Serum product priced at just $25.00 per vial.
5)
Revitalash www.revitalash.comSells for $150.00 per 0.13 fl. oz. container
Ingredients:
Water, Sodium Chloride, Panthenol, Citric Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin, Disodium Phosphate, Trifluoromethyl Dechloro Ethylprostenolamide, Cellulose Gum.
Problems: This product contains Trifluoromethyl Dechloro Ethylprostenolamide which is a prostaglandin analog. The makers of this product state that it is at a lower concentration than the drug active products. So what. It can still cause the following is a list of the known side effects when using products that contain the drug "Lumigan"/Bimatoprost and prostaglandin type actives:
The salt water base solution can cause eyelashes to become brittle over time.
6)
Enormous Lash www.enormouslash.com
Sells for $95.00 per 0.20 fl. oz. container
Ingredients:
WATER, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, GLYCERINE, POTASSIUM OLIVOYL PCA, ARGININE, ALANYL GLUTAMINE, SACCHAROMYCES/COPPER FERMENT, PHOSPHOLIPIDS, SPHINGOLIPIDS, PANTHENOL, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL, PHENOXYETHANOL, ISOPENTYLDIOL, HYDROXYETHYLCELLULOSE, TRISODIUM EDTA.
Problems: This product does not use any drug actives or prostaglandin analogues which is good. However, it does not contain the Peptide that my product uses either. As a matter of fact, this product does not contain ANY active ingredient clinically proven to aid in the growth of eyelashes. It is essentially an eyealsh conditioner, and probably has little to no effect on eyelash growth.
7)
Talika www.talika.comSells for $40.00 per 0.35 fl. oz. container
Ingredients: Nettle, Horse Chestnut Extract, Allantoin, Soy Lecithin, Witch Hazel, St. John's Wort, Apple Extract
Problems: The problem with this product is the use of "extracts" to supposedly grow lashes. Nettle is claimed to be the ingredient that grows lashes. However, there is no real evidence to prove that the extract "nettle" will grow lashes.
8)
Mavala www.mavala.comSells for $15.00 per 0.33 fl. oz. container
Ingredients:
Water, Magnesium, Aluminum Silicate, Butylene Glycol, Propylene Glycol, Alcohol Denat, Xanthan Gum, Lactococcus Ferment, Glycosaminoglycans, Proline, Riboflavin, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Hexamidine Diisethionate, 2-Bromo-2Nitropropane-1, 3-Diol
Problems: The problem with this product is that while the company claims that their natural active ingredients will restore, strengthen, and make your eyelashes shinier, the ingredients listed don’t contain anything that would actually stimulate eyelash growth. This probably accounts for the extremely cheap price. However, there will be no repeat customers for this product once they find out that it will not work for them.
9)
Rozge www.rozge.comSells for $80.00 per 0.24 fl. oz. container
Ingredients:
We couldn't find the ingredients list for this product anywhere.... All that it claims is "100% natural ingredients".
Problems: The problem with this product is no "natural" ingredient has been clinically shown to create eyelash growth. So, the chances of this product working is very little to none.
10)
Rapidlash Sells for $43.99 per 0.10 fl. oz. container
Ingredients:
Water (Aqua), Rhizobian Gum, Sodium Hyaluronate, Butylene Glycol, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Biotin, Panthenol, Pantethine, Hydrolyzed Glycosaminoglycans, Allantoin, Cucurbita, Pepo (Pumpkin) Seed Extract, Sea Water, Dipotassium, Glycyrrizate, Alcohol Denat (and) Isopropyl Cloprostenate, Octapeptide-2, Copper Tripeptide-1, Glycerin, Glycine Soja (Soybean Oil), Phosphatidylcholine, Polypeptide-23, Phenoxyethylene, Chlorphenisen, Sorbic Acid.
Problems: The problem with this product is that it relies on Pumpkin Seed Extract and two peptides that have little evidence of any eyelash growth stimulation. It also has the active ingredient in the formulation Isopropyl Cloprostenate, which has been isolated from the prostaglandin family using biotechnology. So, it may also cause some of the known side effects of the prostaglandin type active ingredients.
Based on this survey, the Moisturizing Eyelash Growth Serum (E.Y.E.S. system) priced at $25.00 is the best value for true stimulation of eyelash growth without any side effects or irritation. This product is placed excellently both in price point and effective activity to become #1 in this cosmetic category.
