Read Julia Ione's thread recently with some lovely work from Dr Nacul, and have been very intrigued by past posts discussing upcoming PSs in Brazil/the Americas.
Does anyone know of any good PSs in Brazil/Central and SA, for faces and also for body work? Or how I could research this subject - what kind of memberships and qualifications to look for, or any other good resources? Was discussing this with an acquaintance who needs revision liposuction and breast augmentation, so this may well become a fact finding mission in the future, lol.

I dunno, which is puzzling b/c you hear of the Brazilian butt lift...isn't that where it came from? I see way more people going to Mexico and returning with good to outstanding results, but Mexico is getting comparatively expensive for medical tourism so many are investigating the Dominican Republic. I live on the West Coast so I'm much more likely to go to hop the 1.5-2 flight to TJ, where a lot of the PS (and other surgeries: bariatric, heart, brain, pretty much anything you want/need) is done.

DianaD, would you consider going to Mexico for these surgeries? Is is the price factor or are people actually going because they're better at certain things than USA doctors?
OK... so I've been able to partially answer my own question now. I had a look at the ISAPS site and there's quite a few options, but I guess difficult considering no before and after photos are online. Also, I did a search back through the posts and found Missj's mention of Ewaldo Bolivar de Souza Pinto for liposuction/sculpture and Ricardo Baroudi for body work. Someone also mentioned a Raul Gonzalez and I found a PS called Fabio Nahas who's recently been demonstrating abdominoplasty techniques at US conferences. All these are in Sao Paulo, so I've sent these names to my friend. However I haven't found any names for face work. Maybe Brazil is the type of place you'd go to get a particular niche thing done (e.g. the Nacul Bioplasty) and it isn't as good for general plastic surgery type things as the USA is. Although I have seen a lot of Brazilian articles for max fax surgery so it may also be up and coming on that.

Until very recently I was scheduled to go to Mexico for a non- PS surgery because my insurance kept denying me. I finally booked the appt., told my Dr. about it and inquired about aftercare when I got home and I then, lo and behold, got the referral, so now I'm having it done at home by my insurance. I will tell you, however, I was totally prepared to go to Mexico and had a lot of confidence in the doctor, as much if not more than I would here and...I was totally fed up w/ my insurance company. Likewise if I get cancer or something else my insurance won't treat I'll be over there in a second.
Barring that, some point I will be going to Mexico for a tummy tuck, lipo, and fat grafting of the buttocks. I like the results that the Mexican doctors give in terms of shapes better than the Drs. here-very dramatic hourglass figures vs. more conservative results. Obviously vetting (which can be tricky) goes into it but the sheer amount of people going there every day and coming back w/ good results really impressed me when I was doing my research.
Brazilian doctors, IIRC, have a different deal in terms of advertising, I think it's against the law to do so, so I guess it's a lot of word of mouth. I'm very interested in Latin American surgeons in general (and am interested in learning more about Asia, esp. South Korean bone work) but Mexico seem to be one of the most popular PS destination for Americans. Since I'm on the West Coast I'd do that before going to Brazil b/c it means longer flights, etc. unless it was an amazing Dr. w/ an incredible deal. It's not good to fly right after surgery, so many opt to go to recovery houses afterwards but you still have to get on the plane.
There was a good TV show about this a couple of months ago that they rerun constantly "Vanguard: Under the knife abroad" which shows several patients getting (non PS) surgery in different countries (largely Asia) with good results.

Not much but I spoke to a french plastic surgeon about minimally invasive bodywork for sagging thigh and calf augmentation-he also does minimally invasive vertical fasciotomy for calf augmentation-this appeals to me as done under local v. quickly thus less risk of complications The french PS said he was v.experienced ,had v.good results and was v.innovative...then I started to see his name frequently in medical journals.I know he comes to LA to see patients also...but I haven't contacted him yet myself. His email was/is guillermoblugerman@gmail.com
