Since you've been thru the max fax, may I ask you how long it took for you to recover, including teeth? I wish I had known about this operation 10 years ago when I got braces...Now w/ my perfect teeth (It's weird, I had straight teeth as a kid and into my early 20s but in my 30s they started moving around and gave me a buck tooth gap) there's no way I'd sign up for all that but I'm still curious...that's the surgery you get for a longer, thin face, no?
Wishing you the best scenario possible today and knowing you're already preparing for the worst! You sound like you are being very practical about everything. I was "unusual" looking as a kid and I think going through the teasing etc. makes you less likely to take certain things for granted. I started orthognatic treatment jan 2007, actual surgery sept 2009, braces came off march 2010.

Hey Earl . . . if the axe does indeed fall--and I'm hoping it doesn't, you understand--I'd be happy to help you spruce up your resume.
I do a lot of work with students just out of law school, so resume writing is right up my alley. DCNGA would be good too, and I be she'd be happy to help you out. For some reason I think she does a lot of the hiring at her company, so her eyes would be valuable.
Here's hoping you don't have to take me up on my offer, though.

The company I work for hires a lot. They typically look for experienced software/IT/SQL/implementation/network people. It's in ATL with no other offices.

Oh wow. Could I have been any less clear??? I meant that you could help him out by critiquing his resume . . . not hiring the boy. My post was totally unclear. Apologies to you both.

I want to thank everyone for the kind words and wishes. The layoffs started, it's going to be a slow process continuing until early June. It's going top down. I feel my surgical window is closing fast.

So if you make it to June, will you be safe? Also, I've heard of companies bringing in head hunter type people to assist those who've been laid off in finding new employment. Is your company doing this by chance? I had an engineer friend laid off recently at Northrop Grumman, and the on site head hunters actually found him a better job.
Good luck, Earl.

Well earl25, take comfort in the fact that ONE thing is even lower than you under your veep's shoe ... the FLOOR! It doesn't get any lower. Sending you positive vibes to keep your sense of humor, survive AND get the surgeries you envision. You see yourself as gum today. Try the shoe tomorrow. Then go up from there! But not so high and mighty that you get lopped off. I Bug U
