I am male in his 20s who is having surgery soon. For a while I have wanted to have a slightly darker complexion. I was thinking of either using some sort of fake tan product or sunbed after surgery, to both distract from the surgery and make my skin look a bit darker and healthier.
Can anyone suggest whether sunbeds or products are preferable. And if products, what products?
Also, is it acceptable for a male to do this or will I be in line for some heavy ridicule?
Thanks

I would never do a tanning bed ever especially after surgery which I assume is cosmetic. You want to heal as best you can shun the sun. There is a great self tanner called xen tan. I recommend the dark one as it has a reddish base and looks more natural. It also has a shows where it goes guide so you can avoid streaks.

Oh and dark tan skin does not always appear healthier it can make you appear older. If I go heavy on Tge self tan I swear people think I'm older lol don't know why. I like the way Tge self tanner evens out skin discoloration.

I agree with Xen Tan - it's easy to apply, decent colour and doesn't smell like wet dog.

Isn't melanotan an injection ? I've heard it's used in Australia but outlawed in America ?

You DO NOT want to put any kind of makeup on a fresh scar as the pigment might get absorbed. Same goes for tanning. Suck it up.

They've been talking about this melanotan for years and I'm still waiting. Let me know when it's available and I'll be first in line for it.
I use banana boat self tanning mist. I get it at target for 8 bucks. Looks natural as long as you don’t get carried away. Like any self tanner that is. Just gives me some needed color so I don't get so pale.
It's the DHA ingredient that actually tans your skin. No matter what product or price you pay. They all have it as the active ingredient.

Thanks guys for your help. I'll guess I'll have to wait until a while after surgery then give one a go.

No, i haven't used it but i might one day. I have more important topics to address in my appearence before i start to worry about paleness. Two more things - CE Ferulic kind of adds a hue to my skin.. And try hitting the gym - theoretically higher test levels also result in darker skin, though I think that only by a tiny notch. I'd say my skin tone has improved, not particulary darker.

Eating high nutrient foods with carotenoids will help your skin tone as well. Orange, red, green vegetables and fruits like carrots are supposed to give you an orange yellowish tinge to your overall skin color.
