Yes it's New Year's Eve; Yes I'm standing outside FREEZING to death; And yes, I'm posting this with my phone, which I hate doing. . . but Science Nerd, in between chatters of his teeth, just told me something I didn't know and which I find amazing. I was bitching about my face drying out in the cold wind, especially under my eyes, and he said that the undereye area gets dry and ages so quickly because there are no oil secreting glands there. Well color me . . . informed. I didn't know that. He also said that it's really important to moisturize that area, although not too much or you'll get millia. I always thought moisturizing only made your skin feel better temporarily and didn't have any real long term benefit. Seems I was wrong.

YOu guys probably knew all about this, but I sure didn't. I feel oddly stupid and smart, both at the same time.

Happy New Year!

It's not allowed to get cold in Florida.

In retrospect it's a little embarrassing--it wasn't actually THAT cold, but we're from Florida and therefore not accustomed to temps below 70. Me and my better half welcomed 2012 from Times Square. Everyone should do that once in their lives. It was A LOT of fun and the people there were really nice.

and NY/times square was really warm last night for new years.

it's a young person's game, being out in TS on new years ;-)

I did New Years in Times Square too this year; great weather although me and SO went to Aureole and then walked outside 15 mins before ball drop, couldn't ask for a better view.

I too have heard that moisturizing has no long term benefit but instead just serves as a temporary relief.

That's like saying insulin therapy has no long term benefit for a diabetic. The point of this is these treatments offer 'temporary' relief on a day to day basis. Keep up with the treatment and the results are beneficial.

What an awesome analogy, Stache! I have to file that away for future use. And I actually like knowing, or at least believing, that there's something I can do to forestall the hands of time. That's why all this info had such an impact on me.

And I think what messed me and my SO up on NYE was the fact that everyone in Manhattan was talking about how not cold it was going to be that night. Forgetting that I'm used to Florida temps, I only wore a sweater, albeit a heavy sweater with a scarf, but that was it. And my SO went in his leather jacket, which he wore over a t-shirt, so he wasn't happy either. Especially since I kept trying to wear him. (That boy puts out heat like a radiant heater.)

Dang, if I'd known you guys were going to be around, we could've all hooked up and welcomed the new year together.

I was actually working, until early evening. People say the same thing about Rogaine, 'if you stop using it the hair will fall out'. Why would I stop using it? The backs of my hands were getting dry so I started putting creme on them every day right after the shower. Now my nurse tells me my skin is in good condition. It pays to do maintenance.

In the winter I use extra virgin olive oil after a shower. People ask if it leaves as odor. No, for some reason it doesn't. Olive oil works better for me than any other moisturizer I've tried. I also used virgin coconut oil. They both work well on the body & face. I live in the north where winter is very drying on my skin. I don't tend to use these oils much in the humid summer.
