By club, I mean doing some activity that you enjoy such as surfing, skiing, hiking, music etc. You might meet a better class of man there. I cannot believe they are all so narcissistic and crass. If they are, it would put me into a depression too! agree. live your life with things you enjoy, and in so doing find others who are doing the same. there are a lot of asses out there. the issue is that the OP seems to take it as a reflection on her. If something is worth having, it's worth making an effort for.

Bugjune wrote:kk25, don't get discouraged!!! I had braces put on at age 43. It was quite frankly the BEST thing I ever did for myself (along with Vaser High Def lipo). I actually felt cute and perky with my tinsel teeth! I got an adorable Paul Frank t-shirt with that goofy monkey wearing braces. Loved it!!
What did get me down during the 3 years I had braces on was the periodic tightening of them. Oh KO! The pain! I couldn't even suck a leaf of lettuce for about 4 days afterwards. That completely bummed me.
I bet once that metal comes off, you will 1.) JUMP for joy, followed by 2.) spring for a BriteSmile tooth whitening, and then 3.) SMILE like there's no tomorrow!
Believe me, it's worth it. ===================== Bug June thank you so much for the encouraging words in my case i started with a bad occlusion that braces made kind of worse aesthetically speaking and the only way to fix is having maxfax . i was really happy when i first got them but as the years have passed i have become less and less enthusiastic over the braces. i been so worried about the whole ordeal and the maxfaX that this past week i had nightmares about it, i dream that i was being sedated than that later on when the DR started cutting the jaws with a drill i got off the table and left. (i cancel the surgery this year because of the retrograde that you mentioned) sorry for my random writing when it comes to this topic i just cant think straight lol.

Did you ever feel like you were going through an ugly phase? It sucks and I hope it's not a permanent thing. Cindy. I can relate. 2010 was the worst year of my life and I feel like it aged me a lot, so I've felt like I've been in a "surface looks" ugly phase. For awhile I was very fixated on my flaws and did not realize I was ignoring the other 80% of me. Since then, I've been reading books on the brain and healing like "The Brain that Changes Itself" & "Healing Toxic Thoughts" and been working on diet with a class using "the Body Ecology Diet" as a text. I have a wonderful Louise Hay mp3 that is just subliminal affirmations of love and self worth and I listen every day. I swear it's having an effect. :) It's called "Self Esteem Affirmations" and can be found on iTunes, audible.com, amazon.com... All of these are bringing back my confidence, joy, motivation and inner glow. Now I still want my face work, but I feel less ugly than I did. I don't feel I "must" have the face work. I just want it. I say when we feel ugly on the outside, there are a lot of things we can do to improve how we look from the inside out. After reading what one person said was a study about ugly men failing with women, it seemed the study was more about men who wanted casual sex or overestimated how much a woman liked them failed. There was a woman at my first graphic design job. She was quite big boned, and not attractive in a tradition sense. But she dressed really sharp, and she was so funny and confident and unselfconscious.....she really projected an air of "I'm attractive" and I tell you, I was very attracted to her. Just thoughts. I hope you feel better soon.

Yeah I need to get back into the inner work. I've tried to find a therapist for months to help support me in this area but have not found one I connected with.
My therapist retiring years ago was somewhat detrimental. I haven't found anyone since and I do need the support.
I'm sick too at the moment (bad cold) and New Year's Eve is always challenging.
I recognize I'm stuck in patterns that I seem unable to break out of. Feeling pretty hopeless at this point.

I think I saw that brain book at a chiropractor's office. Maybe I should check it out. Thanks for the book mentions.

I think it is probably true - if a generalisation - that the people on the board underestimate their attractiveness. We are a self-selecting bunch after all. A lot of people IRL get it just as wrong in the other direction.
