I am just curious about how much weight gain is "average" for a woman in this time period?

IIRC it's about a pound a year until 60 and then on average, people start losing. I suppose their appetites are reduced to some extent because the senses of smell and taste are not as acute.
But average doesn't mean much if you want to be attractive. There is no real reason why anyone should gain weight in adulthood. If we are less active, we could reduce our intakes or increase our expenditures or both, to prevent weight gain in adulthood.

I know it's considered normal to gain weight as we age, but people don't have to. My mom, 2 sisters, and I all weigh the same amount we did when we were in our early 20's. None of us have ever fluctuated beyond a pound or two, except during pregnancy. All of us have been pregnant multiple times. Genetics probably pay the biggest role in weight gain.

Women often do gain weight at menopause. It's not at all unusual.
I weigh the same or maybe a little less than I did at 40.

I wonder if HRT would help keep the weight off after menopause. I never got over 115 until a about two years ago at 51. Now I'm 10 lbs heavier. I could always eat anything I wanted until then. Really depressing.

Same weight throughout my life with 3 pound or so fluctuations, apart from pregancy. Now close to 60. Five feet two and a half, 110 lbs. Have jogged for 30 years, 3 miles (most) days. Take HRT. Never diet, though don't eat unrefined carbs or drink alcohol.

Late to the game here .. but was told by my physician's assistant that a weight gain of 2 pounds a year is not unusual after age 35. However that was completely unacceptable to me! I figure a woman could alter some component of lifestyle: eating, drinking, exercise, etc., to maintain a weight at least within a 5-lb range. I found with myself that HRT definitely impacted my weight. When on HRT, my weight is steady as a rock: 128 when I was on PremPro 0.625mg; 129 now that I'm on PremPro 0.45mg. By contrast, the few months I took no HRT (age 51 I think) I put on almost a pound a month, even tho I'd cut back on calories and upped my gym time. Sucked! I Bug U

I read somewhere that after menopause a woman has to exercise for an hour per day just to maintain her current weight. I know if I don't walk an hour per day, I will gain a pound or 2.
