Just got back from a bizarre consultation with a Dr. who posts a lot on Real Self. com. I saw him because he claims to perform fat injections/dermal fat transfer to necks that need fat. Well, it seems that he does not. He said I could use a chin implant (I already knew that) The implant will likely improve the neck & the lack of fat will become less of an issue. I was completely nonreactive & nonconfrontational during the consult, but it was uncomfortable because he knew that I knew he has been less than honest on the forum.( he actually became a bit squirmy & was a bit agitated) I do think he does good chins, though. Know that I took 2 vacation days & paid for the flight. I had a suspicion, as he contradicts himself on the forum. I think there are many good surgeons on Realself.com, but many exaggerate their abilities. Oh well, I'll chalk it up to experience. Holy Shit!!!

I'd be really unhappy about that . . . and so would the AMA. You know, it wouldn't have been out of line for you to ask him to reimburse some of your expenses. So essentially, this surgeon is claiming that he is able to perform a surgery that he cannot, right? If so, the AMA would eat him alive if they found out. It's one thing to exaggerate results or photos but this? Yikes.

Imo the state of the cosmetic surgery industry has a lot to be desired. Some org or body needs to really step in.

Yes, he apparently cannot help me put fat in my neck. But, did offer me another way to improve things ( so he did fulfill part of the reason for the consultation request.) He is on the forum mentioned previously as being capable of being able to place fat back. Kept saying that I don't have a skeletized neck, even though I do. I was also asked more than once if I have undergone counseling, likely suggesting ?Bdd? The answer is no, on both counts. I feel he became agitated & short tempered once he realized I'm a fairly sane individual, with a mild cobra neck deformity. I think it is best to chalk it up to experience though. I feel a bit frustrated & a bit angry.

A good number of them will say anything just to have their name and presence noticed by patients. For the most part, the questions they do answer would be easy for me or some folks on my board to answer. chesapeakebay wrote:Just got back from a bizarre consultation with a Dr. who posts a lot on Real Self. com. Well, Miss J, I think you are right about it being a place to advertise & get exposure. As I said, I had a suspicion that his claims may not be completely accurate. Well, I found out what I needed to, & in many ways I verified what I already knew was true. I am further ahead. Thanks to all, & A Merry Christmas!!!

most of what they say on there is very elementary. One gets more advanced answers here than there if you ask me but of course I'm biased. lol
Also, I've seen docs on there answering questions about jaw implants and I KNOW they don 't do them. They just want to give some answer to get exposure.

chesapeakebay - consider yourself beyond lucky to have had both the gut instinct and actual experience meeting this "doc" before you ever went under his knife! Yeah, that is GOOD karma. Keep on walkin' ... till you find the right surgeon who can do what you want done. I Bug U

I had a bizarre consult recently myself, that, and the worst Botox ever. I went to a no-name guy up in northern Colorado. He had nothing but glowing reviews, even on RateMd. The entire experience was strange. I left feeling really bad, one of those. I shook it off content this guy was just an odd-ball (and a gas-bag on top of it; he had a med student with him, which I dislike as the docs often behave differently, imo) I left with the worst Botox ever. I won't return for the lower bleph and tip-plasty he says I need. At any rate, don't feel too alone, we all run into some doozies. There are good ones out there, too.

Getting BOTOX is a good introduction to a doc. Like it will give you a gut feeling about the rest of the stuff he can do. So great you 'explored' the waters with the botox before deferring to his advice for surgery stuff. Improved wrote:I had a bizarre consult recently myself, that, and the worst Botox ever. Improved, having had some bizarre experiences myself ... I think we all need to really listen to our gut! If it means get up and BOLT from the doc's exam room before treatment, so be it! Who knows where we pick up the vibes from? But you got one just waiting for the Botox. I also agree that when an apprentice, trainee, or med student is present, the doc is prone to being so busy impressing that person that s/he may genuinely goof up! Like shoot ya up with too much Botox, filler or something. I had a similar bad vibe from the doc who did my MixTo - but that visit, I was seeing him for Juvey injections. I was kept waiting ONE HOUR. I was thinking WTF? And then all of a sudden it was like a bad vibe punched me in the stomach. I leaped out of the chair, whipped the door open ... and there he was just ready to come in. My mouth fell open, and he must've thought I'd stashed a couple syringes of Juvey in my purse. I slunk back to the chair and got my Juvey. It came out fine! But 14 days later I was back to get the MixTo face-fry. Shoulda listened to my gut. Needless to say, I wrote the doc off for good after that debacle. I Bug U
