Tomorrow I am going to a new dermatologist and I am thinking about switching from Retin A to Tazorac, as it seems like more people on here seem to prefer it, including Chris K, who's skin has really been transformed by using it over the years. Anyhow, I currently use Retin A cream .05 percent and was wondering if the Tazorac .05 is just as effective or if I need to request the .1 percent? I know this sounds like a stupid question to some, but I think that because these two meds have a slightly different variation of the same retinoid, one might be stronger than the other. Does anyone who has used both have any thoughts to share?

go with .1
tazorac is strong but not harsh.
also taz is covered by insurance because its indicated use is for acne. its not why i use it but i always say the best drugs are those used off label
keep me posted. i love taz!

Does anyone who has used both have any thoughts to share? Also can I ask the difference between these and also tretinoin? Is it just subtle, and really an individual thing? I tried to get my derm to prescribe tazorac today, but she wasn't familiar with it - ie I don't think she had prescribed it before (I am in Australia, so maybe she just isn't up with the latest stuff). She gave me tretinoin. Given I couldn't really articulate why I wanted Tazorac over it, I just conceded ...

She gave me tons of .1 samples and also a few .05 samples just in case I find .1 too strong (doubtful since I have alligator skin). My insurance covers it, too, which is great! They stopped covering the Retin A Micro I was using awhile back, even though it is for acne, but they still cover Taz. Chris K wrote:go with .1

Not sure of the exact difference but will get back with you when I find out. They are both variations of a Vitamin A retinoid. Aggie wrote:
