rm1961, it sounds like you've already found out: 2 drinks is your "trigger" - so you stick to your gut instinct! If you have to abstain from all wine, so be it!

Yes, I also think that hormones play a part. Lower estrogen circulating in the body may lead to more "stress" on the major organs. And if you take any meds (even Tylenol! but also cold meds, antihistamine, antibiotics, etc.,) they can increase the negative effect of alcohol.

I also find that I sleep much better having had zero alcohol at night. Soda water and lime sounds very refreshing and delicious!

So ... party on!

I was thinking that hormones had to play a part in this. Certainly pigging out at Thanksgiving did not help! If I drink just one glass of red wine, I may wake up for a while but I won't necessarily be up for hours. Two glasses and I'm guaranteed to have a rapid heart rate, both if I drank the wine combined with food or without. The last two nights I slept very well as I completely abstained. I even went out to a bar last night with two friends and had absolutely no desire for alcohol! One friend said she can only drink white wine as red wine ruins her sleep and the other friend suggested drinking vodka and soda but I was quite content with my soda water and lime. We'll see how long this lasts. ;-)

The title of this thread: 'Dried up old hag roll call' got me thinking. Like maybe I should re name the board: 'This old Bag'. You know like the program; 'This Old House' where they show how they fix every thing up.

Ha! Ha! You've got your marketing cap on now!

And then there are other shows on HGTV: "Curb Appeal" "That's Clever!" "Designed to Sell"

Or Discovery TV: "Dirty Jobs" "I Almost Got Away With It" and .... "Mythbusters"

Somewhere there's a show on sleazy pawnbrokers and hoarders ... but I forget where or how they'd relate to sophisticated seniors like us who are just trying to look better on a budget.

I just saw a show tonight called; 'I hate my teenage daughter'. Now, I really don't watch this stuff normally as I don't have a TV. It was one of those days I was of to the pool (mile away) but could not walk due to the hip again so, I ended up stopping at a friends house and getting stuck not being able to get off the couch and that was on.

Lol, I don't watch tv anymore either, that sounds exactly like something that could become a hit ( maybe it is?). How was it? I'm starting to miss tv after not having it for 7 months, but I've gotten so much done because of not having it.

Well one of the actresses had cheek implants or so it seemed, so I liked figuring out her possible PS procedures. It was dumb program and my friend ended up changing it to some talent show--maybe X factor thing--not sure.

Sarah probably means KIWI fruits which have a hairy skin, look like big nuts and are from New Zealand. Maybe she
carries them around in her pocket.

Aren't coconuts considered "hairy"? They're nuts, right?

Right:) Coconuts ARE hairy and I think ARE nuts and kiwifruit are fruit (thanks Miss J for coming to my rescue here ). There are plenty of fruits on this board..........Fyi geldings (google it) don't have nuts, hairy or otherwise so no nut cuddling in paddocks here!

Sarah, do you have a 'geldings only' policy in your paddock(s)?

For Sarah, I believe definition #1 would apply to her paddock(s): A fenced in grassy area where horses can run around and graze but sometimes it can be just soil where one exercises the horses.

Contrary to what you might think about Sarah, it's kind of hard to ride a STUD. Geldings are more tame.

Well I initially gave it up after my move to save money, but realized how much more productive I was, so I decided to see how long I could go without it. It's nice because I've rediscovered books and the library. I've had time to study things that interest me. I never would have done those things if I'd had tv during that time. I am now missing it though, so I think I'll get cable again in january.
