It looks as though research ( thanks to the massive influx into old age of the baby boomers) is heading towards some answers. http://www.kurzweilai.net/how-to-prevent-or-slow-down-age-related-disorders/apoptosis

Short 'n sweet summary here (copy & pasted from the newsletter link posted above):
Eliminating “deadbeat” cells that accumulate with age could prevent or delay the onset of age-related disorders and disabilities, Mayo Clinic researchers have shown. The researchers genetically engineered mice so their senescent cells harbored a molecule called caspase 8 that was only turned on in the presence of a drug with no effect on normal cells. When the transgenic mice were exposed to this drug, caspase 8 was activated and killed the senescent cells. The researchers found that lifelong elimination of senescent cells delayed the onset of age-related disorders such as cataracts and muscle loss and weakness, and that removing these cells later in life could slow the progression of already established age-related disorders. Ref.: Darren J. Baker et al., Clearance of p16Ink4a-positive senescent cells delays ageing-associated disorders, Nature (2011) [DOI: 10.1038/nature10600] =========================== Now if only we could all be morphed into MICE so we can start that anti-aging treatment ... like yesterday! OK, so how do I get rid of these old dead cells that are aging me? Bugjune wrote:Short 'n sweet summary here (copy & pasted from the newsletter link posted above):

Better idea! Wait till Tuesday when the great big asteroid hits us! Read more at: http://tinyurl.com/3fkvzuaWell, 200,000 mi away from Earth is *some* distance, but I'm counting on the big event cancelling my 6-mo dental app't that day. I have the Mother of All Toothaches going on right now. Gee. If we all fart together on Tuesday, 11:13pm PST, d'you suppose we could nudge our planet just a tad out of the way? Of course *directionality* is everything here! I propose we face east .... ======================================= MissJ wrote:OK, so how do I get rid of these old dead cells that are aging me?

I'll point my horses in the same direction too. Their contribution will be far greater than mine

LOL. I have my physical therapy on Tuesday. Not planning on cancelling due to the asteroid. I'd keep the dental appointment though. Bugjune wrote:Better idea! Yes, I'm beyond distraught, depressed and disgusted with myself: despite years of excellent dental care (brushing, flossing, yadda yadda), I will have emergency root canal tomorrow morning - hours before any asteroid can possibly *save* me. The fact that Mercury is in retrograde crosses my mind ... but hey, I gotta face the music on that sour note, come what may. <:-(0) ====================================== MissJ wrote:LOL.
