No. One of the girls in my office claims that Sally's Beauty Supply makes something similar but that it was awful. I couldn't tell you about that because I've never, not in over six years, deterred from Wen. That stuff is like crack. I swear. I don't care if I have to sell my own blood. I ain't giving up my Wen. Nothing but Wen is ever going to touch these blonde locks o' mine.

The maker of this product, Chaz, has been featured on Flipping out. Yes?

Might this actually be a product that is as good as it claims? I keep hearing positive reviews!

Mehhh... I tried it for a while. At first my hair looked great, but then after a week or so it seemed to build up- my hair felt coated and limp and I had to use a clarifying shampoo. Maybe if you clarify every week or two to start from scratch it would be ok, but then, it's very expensive so I didn't stick with it.

The thing is, you have to use a sufficient amount. You can't be chincey with it. And to really get the best results you've got to do a double cleanse (rinse and repeat) at least three times a week. Otherwise, you get limp, lifeless, weighted down hair. But I hear you. The stuff ain't cheap. I buy three gallons each year when QVC sells them, and that's the baragain basement price. Still, I just don't care. I have more hair than any male human my age should, and Wen is my crack. I'll admit it. Ol' Chaz there is makin' a killin' off this stuff. My partner, much to my objection, likes to shave with it, but he knows that if I catch him I'm gonna' spray him with the water bottle. I encourage all married or cohabitating people to have a water bottle. Really breaks your spouse of his or her bad habits, and messin' with my Wen is high on that list for me.

I guess it works for some, but not others. I had two clients who used it and their hair was a coated, filmy, disgusting mess. No shine whatsoever, dull, and I couldn't wait a second to go wash my hands after touching their hair. They had no idea it looked like crap and felt like filth until I told them. Also, I just read their site, and they actually recommend it as a leave in conditioner! OMG, leave in conditioners do nothing but attract dirt and dust and leave the hair grimy. I have never seen a leave in conditioner make the hair look or feel good. Leave in conditioner is very late 80's, early 90's.

i don't know what you think but right now i'm loving texture that resembles a late 70s early 80s texture.

very healthy and brushed looking. like the hair has just been shampooed, conditioned, dried and brushed--no product or blowout look. this is where i think the look of hair is going. imo hair doesn't look any better than after its been brushed with a 100% boar bristle brush, preferably a mason pearson brush.

I'm wondering if this is better for hair retention than Nioxin.

I think nioxin is the only thing out there w/ claims for hair retention. I like the fact nioxin has like 8 options of shampoo and conditioner depending on texture, loss, and chemical treatment. Even if your hair isnt thinning, i think it's good.

Wen seems to have its share of haters...http://wen-haircare.pissedconsumer.com/

so much of this depends on what your hair texture is to start with. The only way to pick a shampoo is to buy 10 brands and return 9.

That's probably very true--the buy ten brands and return nine bit.

One thing I wanted to mention is that, in my post up there, I wasn't implying that Wen was responsible for my ridculously thick hair. Nawh, that's just heredity. My stylist used to say, "Are you sure your mom didn't marry her brother, or at least a first cousin? Something has to account for the crazy thickness of your hair." Alas, even though I'm from the south there's no inner-marriage in my family. But . . . my mom and dad are beginning to resemble each other, now that I think about it. And I'm sure Wen has more than it's fair share of haters. But for me, like I said, it's total crack . . . and that ain't whack.

I think thick hair types do better with this product than thin. The lady that raved about it to me had extremley thick hair.

I've heard it's good, but, it's expensive.
