I wanted to get my dental work done before having a consult with Miss J. It looks like I may be getting dental done in Nov. or Dec. at the latest. I have been putting it off, but have had 2 infections and my mother has been pressuring me because she thinks it will all negatively affect my health.
I want all wisdom teeth extracted, but have some reservations.
1. Would only having the bottom ones extracted affect my bite and the way my face looks?
The ones at the bottom are fully in and I know that the right one is totally rotten. That is the one my mom is concerned about. The ones at the top are 1/2 way in, but don't bother me. I don't know if they are rotten or not.
2. Is it possible to have the wisdom tooth filled?
I am having a hard time deciding on crowns. I need a crown for a chipped molar and I need a crown for an implant.
3. Porcelain, PFM, or Zirconia which is best?
I was told that all porcelain was too weak for a molar. I am afraid that I may be allergic to the metal alloy in porcelain fused metal and Zirconia is new so I am not versy sure about it.
Thanks in advance.

I can't really help you but I just want to say 'nice to see you'. : ) You can have a wisdom tooth filled but it may not be worth it. Removal of a lower wisdom tooth may result in a smaller lower jaw on that side over time. Are you happy with your jaw size?

Rotting teeth can affect your general health. Get them out asap.Your mother is correct.
You need a dentist's opinion about the good ones. Often wisdom teeth will push forward the other teeth over time which may make then crooked.
Yes, you can have wisdom teeth filled but you need to know from a professional if this is the best decision regarding the rest of your mouth.
Porcelain alone is too weak for molars. Why do you think you may be allergic to the porcelain fused to metal? It can happen, but is very uncommon. I am highly allergic to nickel but have had a whole mouth of PFM's for many years and never have had any trouble HTH

Hi Stache! Nice to see you too! :) Actually that is one of my biggest issues that I wanted to get a Miss J consult about. My left jaw is much smaller and at a different angle compared to my right one. Although for some reason I think that side looks younger, I am not too happy about the eye shape on that side. And as a result my lips look weird when my mouth is closed. Like they are "pulling" more to the left and the top lip is more asymetrical than the bottom. I am getting self conscious about this again as I have lost some more weight and it is getting more noticeable I feel since I have come down more. I think the left side is smaller because I had a molar extraction done and then I went a long time without getting the implant crown there. I just have the implant in the gum and huge space for the molar. I also had infections in the wisdom behind the molar that was extracted and I think it could have possibly damaged the bone there. The horrible thing is that I have two teeth at the top that have now shifted forward on the left - an incisor and the tooth directly behind it. So I am not happy about that. I think I would def need both at the bottom out. The left bottom looks kind of ok and the right bottom is extremely decayed - its black. And that side - the right side of my face was where I had the last two infections. My face was so big in August that people were asking "what's wrong?" Strangers even. I took some antibiotics and it took about a week to go down. If my right side will get smaller that would be great, but if the left side gets smaller I would be very unhappy. I was hoping that getting the crowns may help to build bone to even things out. stache wrote:I can't really help you but I just want to say 'nice to see you'. : ) You can have a wisdom tooth filled but it may not be worth it. Thank you Sarah. I appreciate the feedback. I think that the PFM may be my best option strength and price wise. I was concerned because I am very allergic to nickel. Skin turns black. Has the PFM worn down your opposing teeth any? Sarah W wrote:Rotting teeth can affect your general health. Get them out asap.Your mother is correct.

A friend of mine really let his molars go and he developed major heart problems, I think because of this. He's about 53 years old and now is semi invalid.

I agree with Stache and Sara you should take care of the bad teeth ASAP as they can affect your entire health. as for the wisdoms what size teeth you have and what condition are they in, if they are bad or impacted just get them pulled out

Wisdom teeth are ones that it's OK to lose especially if they are infected or get that way. There are a collection of people who use a process called; "Oil Pulling" which some how cuts down on the pathogenic bacteria that affects teeth.

They are very tough on the opposing teeth-yes. I also grind my teeth which does not help. However my molars are all PFM's top and bottom so OK there. I also had PFM's on the front top teeth and they have worn down my natural lowers. I would choose plain porcelain for the front teeth if I did it all over again but would stay with the PFM's for the posterior teeth.

Hi Stache. I have never heard of this before. I knew that people would talk regarding health issues from dental issues, but it was usually general. I had no idea that it could lead to heart issues. I am so sorry for your friend. I have been researching like mad now and trying to sort everything out. I have decided to go back to Mexico as this will be cheaper for me. stache wrote:A friend of mine really let his molars go and he developed major heart problems, I think because of this. Thanks KK25. I am hoping that the wisdoms at the top are ok. I know that the ones at the bottom are not. I can't clean all sides of them as they are pushed back so far into my jaw and they are partially covered by my cheeks. kk25 wrote:I agree with Stache and Sara you should take care of the bad teeth ASAP as they can affect your entire health. as for the wisdoms what size teeth you have and what condition are they in, if they are bad or impacted just get them pulled out

Thank you Miss J. I will have to Google "oil pulling". I have been brushing twice a day and I floss at least once, but I can still smell that decay smell coming from the back of my mouth at times. I have also been using peroxide to brush with (in addition to the paste) and alternately gargling with peroxide, salt water, and listerine. I am really upset because a few years back I begged 3 different doctors 1 in US and 2 in Mexico to pull my wisdoms. And they all told me no. The US one told me it wasn't a big deal and the ones in Mexico said that they all were coming in straight. And here I am with one i know that is totally rotten. Thank you Sarah. I really appreciate you sharing your experience. I did find a dentist who will do a noble metal or even gold crown with porcelain over it so maybe that will reduce my chances of allergies.
