My hair turned out fine. Now I just have to wait and see if it turns shades of pink as I wash it over the next two weeks.

Well, the lab rat (me) took her bottle of Clairol Beautiful semi-permanent hair color to the salon today .... and the experiment was a total, unmitigated flop. My hair hadn't been colored in 8+ weeks, so I had a good, inch-wide skunk stripe down the part. Up to now, my stylist had been using Wella semi-permanent hair color mixed with a 4% hydrogen peroxide solution on my hair. For probably 3 years now, I've had that same formula applied every 6 weeks. I'd sit silently gritting my teeth as my scalp went "Snap!" "Crackle!" "Pop!" just like a bowl of Rice Crispies. Forty minutes of sheer torture with the dreadful itching till I just couldn't take it! The Clairol Beautiful intrigued me cuz it's semi-permanent (don't have to worry about the brassy notes or line of definition as my hair grew out); it had no ammonia, hydrogen peroxide or PPD. Turns out it had no color power either. It comes out of the bottle a deep, rich chocolate brown. As it sits on the hair it glistens a rich chestnut. But after sitting there in TOTAL COMFORT (no itch! not one crackle!) the color simply washes right out as if it was a bottle of Bumble & Bumble color extender shampoo. We could see that my hair roots were like a pale orange. Not good. But we continued the test clear on to the blow-dry finish. Geez. My hair was as dull as pewter. Not one bit of shine at all. And the roots were still that pale orange. So we sighed - and my stylist, who has the patience of a saint! - started ALLLLLLL over with the Wella semi-permanent she typically uses on me. But this time, she used the 1.9% hydrogen peroxide to mix with the tube of color. Result: NO ITCH. Could this be the fix for me? I ended up with the same deep, shiny color as before, but had NO itch at all during the 40 minutes I sat with the color on. I think it also helped that I only wetted my hair this morning - no shampoo before my hair coloring. So I had a protective cap of oil on my scalp. Well, I think I'll just stick with the Wella going forward. My 3 remaining bottles of Clairol Beautiful will be tossed, and maybe enrich the landfill. I Bug U

Sorry it did not work out for you. My gray is scattered all over my head and not concentrated. I'm probably 35% gray. It really does well for me, but even though it says semi-perm, it only lasts for 6-8 shampoos. If you wash your hair ever day, it would be gone (for most of us) in a week--apparently it does not work at all for you.
I've got to find a different shade of it myself as my hair is turning pink in a few places again. Ugh! Maybe I got a hold of a bad batch or something. Choosing the color carefully in this brand is also important. There is one that comes out very 'orange' looking. Also, the one that is the gray formula, made my hair very dull.
Good luck and I'll keep my fingers crossed that the itch does not start in the next 24 hours (as that would be about the max time if it was going to develop).

Hey Bug - Did she put a heating cap over your head or stick you under the dryer after she put the Clairol Beautiful Browns on? that REALLY helps - but anyway you seem to be doing fine with your Wella - Hotels in Cleveland

DCNGA: Yup, I am utterly and completely SILVER. Started going gray in my late 20s - oh, my hubby had nothing to do with that! ;-) I must've nabbed the orangey shade, cuz I those silver roots came out a pale, pale shade of orange. And even this semi-perm stuff left my hair completely dull like cotton thread. Larzelle: Yes, she put me under a drying helmet for a good 20 min - but c'est la vive! I am also hoping that the Wella plus 1.9% hydrogen peroxide combined together and put on my unwashed scalp is the final answer for me. I Bug U

I was recently told to use this "sensitive scalp peroxide ionic" and that my scalp would not burn or flake. I cant wait to take it to my salon. Will keep you all posted. So maybe I ust have sensitive scalp and not allergy.
Also anyone use the keratin "zero" treatment, I think it is plant based?

So Mich, are you either 1.) in Europe or 2.) using this product as a hair relaxant (as opposed to a hair coloring treatment)? Cuz I did a key word search online for "sensitive scalp peroxide ionic" and those were the two broad catagories it fell in. I need to find a kinder, gentler (but effective!) way to color my hair - not relax it, tho. And o'course I'm in the US, so the whole line of Ion products sold in Europe would not be readily available to my hair stylist here. Ack! I think I'm between the horns of a dilemma: I need either ammonia or peroxide to make any kind of semi-permanent hair color actually *take* to my hair and last a few weeks even. It was disappointing that the Clairol Beautiful line of semi-perm colors seem to be no more than a very dark, rich-looking hair rinse that rinses 98% out of the hair when it's washed. Do you have a URL link you can post here for the product you'll be taking with you to the salon? I Bug U

Hey Bug - Sorry, but I have to stand up and defend this color line - you had this experience with it unfortunately, but I know quite a few people (including myself) who retain more than 98% - BTW did your hairdresser wash the hair after she put the color on with SHAMPOO??? Ofcourse that would take the color off - I wash my hair first, then let it dry, then put the color on -and then I just wash it out with lukewarm water. maybe that is why I keep the color - I would say mine is closer to 50% - and that is A-OK with me, considering I am not damaging my hair one iota - even a low degree of peroxide and ammonia damages the hair shaft - Hotels in Cleveland

Defend away m'dear! I am utterly silver, so perhaps that's why the Clairol Beautifuls aren't for me. Most hair stylists would recommend putting permanent color on me, but I've just always hated how it turns that brassy color in a couple weeks. The only reason I've gotten away with any semi-perm color up to now is cuz my hair is so thin. But just to clarify, yes, my hair stylist put that Clairol Beautiful right on my bone dry hair. Baked me under the heater for 20 min, then rinsed under lukewarm water - no shampoo. As I lay back, head in the sink, I could see her head shaking side to side, Nope. Uh-uh. No way. Nada. No can do. So she blew the hair dry and started all over on me. We both agreed that Clairol Beautiful has a wonderful smell, tho! I Bug U

there is a product by Pravana called Perfection smooth out.
- the Results are nice , it straightens and defrizzes the hair. - it can be used on any type of hair, but look more beautiful when is done to undamaged hair(broom hair get improved too but not as dramatic as an average damaged hair does) - the only thing is that during processing and when hair is being blow dry, processing product makes it feel sticky so it is kind of annoying to work with. also smells too sweet for my taste kind of like stinky vanilla. -things i noticed is that on people that have gray/or wiry hair made it look/feel softer.
- hair can be/is washed after treatment is completed, no need to neutralize it.
ingredient list as stated in bottle
polyquatemium-67, Shea butter,amidopropylitrimoniium chloride,peg 90m, behentrimonium methosulfate,cetearyl alcohol, shea butter cethyl esters,isopropil palmitate, cyclopentaxiloxiane ,dimetriconol,dimeticone crosspolymer, oxoacetamide carbocysteine,oxoacetamide, aminoacids,silanetriol,panthenol,methylchloroisothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinone,parfum,aqua(deionized water)

Sorry took me so long to respond bug The ionic peroxide I bought at Sallys did not work to stop the burn or flaking at day 5 post. I then tried another ammonia free brand... And but of course that did not help either. So now my only option is to stop touching scalp and instead weave into hair... Since I am a brunette with about 28 Percent very bright gray it will be interesting to see how that's going to look. I wish I could find pictures of this color style ....so I know what to expect. How will I refrain from pulling out all the visible grays....so frustrating!!!
